Official Hand Over of Volume.1 and Volume.2 of Tax Review Report

In a formal ceremony today at the new Treasury Building, the Chairman of the Papua New Guinea Tax Review (TRC), Sir. Nagora Bogan, KBE handed Volume.1 and Volume. 2 of the TRC reports to the Treasurer, Minister. Patrick Pruaitch, MP who received the reports on behalf of the National Government.

Release of Other Indirect Taxes Issues Paper No. 10

This paper looks at other indirect taxes including Stamp Duty, gambling taxes, and Departure Tax. It also briefly considers environmental taxes. These taxes generate significant additional tax revenue and may contribute to factors such as efficiency, fairness and simplicity.

Release of Goods & Services Taxation Issues Paper No. 9

This paper includes a broad discussion on the design, operation and efficiency of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in PNG and possible areas of reform to PNG’s GST system. It deals with a number of specific issues and also looks at GST in the context of the overall tax reform package.

National Research Institute Issue Paper on Tax

On September 3rd the Director of the National Research Institute (NRI) Dr Webster handed over to the Chairman of the Tax Review Committee Sir Nagora Bogan a summary report titled ‘Taxation Policies and Practices Affecting Businesses and Individuals in PNG: Options for Reform’.

Committee Announces open consultation forum in Madang

As part of its commitment to engage widely, the PNG Tax Review Committee has announced that it will hold an open consultation forum in Madang on Friday 4 July. The forum will provide an opportunity for parties with an interest in the future of the country’s fiscal (taxation and non-taxation revenue) system to have their say and to learn more about the Review process.

Progressive Update

General Call for Submissions

Call for general submissions to Tax Review

The Tax Review Committee has issued a general call for submissions from interested stakeholders to inform the PNG Fiscal Regime Review (taxation and non-tax revenue). This call for submissions represents the first stage in consultation for the Review. It provides stakeholders with an opportunity to raise any issues of relevance that they would like to see considered as part of the Review. Submissions are due by 30 April 2014.
